What are the causes?

Plantar warts are caused by an infection of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). There are over 100 different types of HPV but only a few are known to cause Plantar Warts. The HPV strain that causes plantar warts strives in warm moist environments such as: shower floors, locker rooms, public swimming areas, pools and gyms. In order to become affected the virus must also have a point of entry such as: cuts, scrapes, cracks in dry skin or wet softened skin from prolonged exposure to water.

What are the symptoms?

According to WebMD, the symptoms of plantar warts include:
Small, fleshy, grainy lesions, or growths, on the soles of your feet

Hard, thickened skin (callus) over a well-defined “spot” on the skin, where a wart has grown inwards

Black pinpoints, which are commonly called “wart seeds” but are actually small, clotted blood vessels

Lesions that interrupt the normal lines and ridges in the skin of your feet

Pain or tenderness when walking or standing

Types Of Treatments

Laser Electrical Cauterization (Preferred) – Genital wart cauterization is the medical practice of burning the tissue with an electrical laser to get rid of the infection. This genital wart treatment is highly effective, healing and recovery is faster, immediate cure with less than 5% chance of re-occurrence.

Surgical Removal (not recommended) – Reserved for rare cases of cancerous appearing lesions. Tissue type diagnosis. Your doctor will need to examine and discuss treatment procedures upon booking an appointment fully. Chance of re-occurrence of 30-40%

Freezing (not recommended) – This genital wart treatment otherwise known as cryotherapy involves freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen. Liquid nitrogen is applied to and around the wart, freezing the wart. As the skin heals, the lesions slough off, allowing new skin to appear. Chance of re-occurrence of 50-60%

Creams (not recommended) – Prescription genital wart creams are to be applied directly to the wart; they work by boosting your immune system’s ability to fight genital warts. Chance of re-occurrence greater than 70%

Beatle Juice Injection / 5FU Treatment (not recommended) – applied by a healthcare provider, creates a blister, and the wart/molluscum peels off with the blister.
