Molluscum contagiosum (MC), sometimes called water warts, is a viral infection of the skin that results in small, raised, pink lesions with a dimple in the center. They may occasionally be itchy or sore. They may occur singly or in groups.

What are the signs and symptoms?

Any skin area may be affected, with the abdomen, legs, arms, neck, genital area, and face being most common. The onset of the lesions is around 7 weeks after infection. It usually goes away within a year without scarring.

What are the causes?MC is caused by a poxvirus called the molluscum contagiosum virus (MCV). The virus is spread either by direct contact including sexual activity or via contaminated objects such as towels. The condition can also be spread to other areas of the body by the person

Types Of Treatments

Laser Electrical Cauterization (Preferred) – Genital wart cauterization is the medical practice of burning the tissue with an electrical laser to get rid of the infection. This genital wart treatment is highly effective, healing and recovery is faster, immediate cure with less than 5% chance of re-occurrence.

Surgical Removal (not recommended) – Reserved for rare cases of cancerous appearing lesions. Tissue type diagnosis. Your doctor will need to examine and discuss treatment procedures upon booking an appointment fully. Chance of re-occurrence of 30-40%

Freezing (not recommended) – This genital wart treatment otherwise known as cryotherapy involves freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen. Liquid nitrogen is applied to and around the wart, freezing the wart. As the skin heals, the lesions slough off, allowing new skin to appear. Chance of re-occurrence of 50-60%

Creams (not recommended) – Prescription genital wart creams are to be applied directly to the wart; they work by boosting your immune system’s ability to fight genital warts. Chance of re-occurrence greater than 70%

Beatle Juice Injection / 5FU Treatment (not recommended) – applied by a healthcare provider, creates a blister, and the wart/molluscum peels off with the blister.
